The students will study how natural and social sciences inform policy while they spend the fall semester on the Outer and Inner Banks of North Carolina. We will explore the Inner and Outer Banks through field trips and classroom studies, addressing concepts in economics, ecosystem scale ecology, and human dimensions of ecology. The students will intern with local organizations and completed a group research project, called the Capstone. The students are also fortunate to interact with the local community, which is facilitated by our Community Advisory Board.
One of the products from last year’s Capstone is a podcast explaining the issue of wastewater management in a coastal community and the students’ research.
