The OBXFS class of 2019

Anna-Gray Anderson is a junior at UNC, majoring in Environmental Studies on the Sustainability Track. She is also minoring in Global American Studies and Social and Economic Justice. She hopes to pursue a career in either renewable energy or sustainable farming. Anna-Gray is originally from Greenville, NC which is just 2 hours away from OBX, so she is used to being on the coast and cannot wait to live there for a whole semester! Anna-Gray hopes to help the coast she grew up on in her time at the field site!

I’m Connor Badgett, a rising senior at UNC Chapel Hill. I’m from Statesville, NC and am excited to live in Manteo for a semester. My interests include soil and water conservation, conservation of biology, environmental modeling, and GIS analysis. I look forward to conducting research in my internship and to living in the beautiful Outer Banks.

Claire Bradley is a sophomore from Ann Arbor, MI. She is majoring in Environmental Studies on the sustainability track and is especially interested in communication, education and analyzing human behavior with regard to sustainability. Outside of school she loves to be outdoors backpacking, biking, or swimming so she cannot wait for a semester in the outer banks living in a such a beautiful area with such amazing opportunities. Claire is enthusiastic and passionate about environmental work so is excited to embark on this semester at the field site and explore all it has to offer!

 

My name is Emma Calhoun and I’m from Charlotte, NC. I’m an environmental science and economics double major with a minor in marine sciences. I love learning about conservation and ocean environments just as much as I love talking about the Federal Reserve! My dream job would be to hold sea otters all day, but my backup would be in environmental economics, conservation or teaching. I work in a marine sciences lab on UNC’s camping working with gas chromatography and methane, but I’m excited to get the chance to do more hands-on research on the coast!

Hello, my name is CriShaun Hardy and I am a Senior Environmental Studies major. I’m originally from Greenville, North Carolina, but I’m definitely excited to live even closer to the coast! I enjoy photography and am fascinated by all form of animal and plant life. I’d love to one day combine my interest in photography and the environment into becoming a nature photographer.

My name is Sarah Henshaw and I am a rising senior majoring in Environmental Studies with a minor in Marine Science. I am originally from Winston-Salem, NC, but have always loved coastal environments. I am interested in pursuing environmental law, and am passionate about environmental policy. In my free time, I love to cook, go to concerts, and play basketball. I am looking forward to getting to know the Outer Banks community, and am excited about all the opportunities I will have at the OBX field site!

Hello! My name is Hayley Kaplan and I am an Environmental Studies major with a minor in Marine Sciences. I am from Raleigh, North Carolina and I enjoy being outdoors and the ocean has always been a passion of mine. I am very interested in climate change and the environmental impacts on coastal ecosystems and communities. I also enjoy painting, drawing and competitive running! I am excited to experience the Outer Banks and all of the various opportunities that come with it.

Peter Marcou is a rising senior from Bethesda, Maryland studying Environmental Studies. He has a passion for our public lands, especially the National Parks Service, for which he hopes to work one day. He is also interested in GIS technologies and how they can be used to track how climate change affects our ecosystems and help our communities. Outside of the classroom, he loves Dungeons and Dragons, and founded the Chapel Hill Adventuring Company, UNC’s D&D student organization.

Hi, I’m Avery Morea! I’m a senior majoring in Environmental Studies, so I’m looking forward to participating in this semester at the Outer Banks Field Site. Even though I’ve lived in North Carolina my whole life, I’ve never been to the Outer Banks, somehow. I’m really excited to spend time at the beach this semester!

My name is Rachel O’Reilly and I am a senior majoring in Environmental Studies with minors in geography and information science. I am interested in using geospatial technology to address environmental problems, and plan to pursue my masters in environmental informatics. I hope to work internationally helping local communities develop climate mitigation strategies to improve their resiliency to extreme weather events. My pronouns are she/her/hers and my hobbies include modeling, lifting, traveling and reading.

Hi! My name is Bailey Williams and I’m a junior majoring in environmental studies and public policy. I’m from Jacksonville, North Carolina so I’m looking forward to living by the coast and getting to know the Outer Banks area. I’m interested in coastal ecosystem management so this is a great place to be!
