The 2019 OBXFS

Twelve UNC Chapel Hill students participated in the fall 2019 semester at the Outer Banks Field Site, hosted by the UNC Coastal Studies Institute.

The students studied how natural and social sciences inform policy while they spend the fall semester on the Outer and Inner Banks of North Carolina. We explored the Inner and Outer Banks through field trips and classroom studies, addressing concepts in economics, ecosystem scale ecology, and human dimensions of ecology. The students also interned with local organizations and completed a group research project, called the Capstone.

The Capstone research project culminated in three products: a report, a presentation, and a podcast called Flushed. This is the OBXFS’s first foray into podcasting. Please have a listen!
